Colette de Vries, a Royal Academy of Ballet graduate and a classical ballet dancer, discovered the therapeutic power of Pilates after suffering a knee injury. Her exposure to the Pilates philosophy and method was so inspiring that she decided to make Pilates her professional home.

Colette’s first qualification as a Level 1 & 2 Pilates Instructor (Mat and Small Equipment) in 2002 was followed by a Diploma in Pilates Body Conditioning at the Pretoria Technicon. In 2003 she earned her stripes as a Level 3 Instructor in Advanced Matwork, the Reformer, the Wunda Chair and the Cadillac, after having completed a course at the acclaimed Trifocus Fitness Academy. A year later she advanced to Instructor Trainer. In 2007, five years after embarking on her Pilates journey, Colette gained international accreditation as a certified Pilates Trainer from the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA), a professional association serving the international Pilates community.

Colette set up her first Pilates studio with physiotherapist Gerda Miller in 2002.In 2004, after having received her qualification as Instructor Trainer, she and Gerda founded Healthy Living Education, a company that specializes in training Pilates instructors. Her private studio, Pilates for Life, found a new home in Durbanville and Colette branched out yet again by taking on a consultant role as the Chief Educator for Pilates trainers at Planet Fitness in Plattekloof. Juggling a busy schedule, she also managed to fit in two stints as guest instructor at the Pilates Room – a leading Pilates practice in London, UK.

In 2006 Colette relocated to Paarl. After ten years she opened a second studio but demand outstripped the available space and a decade-long expansion of her business urgently demanded a new venue that would allow her even greater scope. The custom-designed facilities at Spice Route made such an expansion viable. Today her studio at Spice Route offers a comprehensive health and wellness solution.

Rachellerachelle pic‘s passion for the performing arts inspired her to study Musical Theatre at the Waterfront Theatre School in Cape Town, where she received the Most Outstanding Student Award in her final year. In addition to honing her skills in music, drama and singing, the four-year course trained her in a wide variety of movement disciplines. She did advanced courses in ballet, tap and gold jazz and received her licentiate in Musical Theatre Performance.

An eventful career in the performing arts followed. She starred in various theatre productions and performed live on television. Her adventurous spirit tempted her to work as a seafaring entertainer on board several cruise liners. One of her many responsibilities included fitness instruction. The early morning fitness classes reminded her of the positive spinoffs that a fitness-oriented, healthy lifestyle could have in terms of general wellbeing. She was also reminded of the positive effects that her brief exposure to Pilates had had on her dancing and her active lifestyle.

Once her wanderlust had been satisfied, Rachelle enrolled in the Pilates Mat Course through Healthy Living Education, founded by Colette de Vries and Gerda Miller. Pilates quickly transformed from an interest to a passion. So, in 2017 Rachelle and her husband, Vicus, moved from Bellville to Paarl and Rachelle started working for Pilates for Life under the guidance of her trainer-mentor – Colette de Vries.

Rachelle loves teaching Pilates. She finds the transformation she observes in her clients deeply satisfying, and is committed to helping them achieve their goals and improve their over-all wellness. It’s her quest to transform people’s interest in Pilates into an enduring passion and, ultimately, into a lifestyle that benefits them physically and psychologically.

She worked in the fruit export industry for four years and then moved on to managing technology transfer for Hortgro Science. In 2013 her scientific background opened a new door and she became a scientific conference, symposium and seminar organiser.

Since early childhood Erin has been passionate about all things athletic.  She enjoys outdoor activities that allow her to exercise in nature. She discovered Pilates while suffering from lower back pain during her third pregnancy and immediately gravitated to this form of exercise because she experienced the benefits of a discipline that promotes alignment, balance and strength. Erin believes that Pilates differs from other exercise because it places emphasis on the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility and body awareness and, consequently, supports efficient, graceful movement and functionality.

Erin obtained her Pilates qualification in 2017 from Healthy Living Education and spent about 300 hours training, observing and teaching under the watchful eye of Colette de Vries, owner of Pilates for Life.

She lives in Paarl with husband Petré and children Daniël, Johan and Catherien.
